Biography
ODYSSEY THEATRE – DIRECTOR, RON SOSSI Artistic Director/Founder of the Odyssey, Ron received a BA in Theatre from the Univ. of Michigan and MFA from UCLA, where he was awarded the Samuel Goldwyn and Avery Hopwood Playwriting Awards. Sossi worked as a freelance screenwriter and director and held executive positions at the Mirisch Corporation, the American Broadcasting Company, Paramount Pictures, and Metromedia. He founded the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in 1969, and left the film industry to devote himself fully to the development of an experimental and internationally oriented theatre. Among numerous directing & producing awards, he received the Los Angeles Drama Critics’s Harford Award for “demonstrating a continual willingness to experiment provocatively in the process of theatre” and in 1999 the first Los Angeles Drama Critics Ron Link Award for “Lifetime Achievement in Directing”. Among his many award-winning productions are THREEPENNY OPERA, PEER GYNT, TAKING SIDES, FAR AWAY, THE GREEKS, 2/3 of the BRECHT canon and the KOAN Projects: FAUST PROJEKT, BUDDHA’S BIG NITE, KAFKA THING, and SLIDING INTO HADES (for which he received the L.A. Weekly Award for Best Direction and Production of the Year in 2008) and was recently nominated for Best Production and Best Director for THE ARSONISTS. Ron was a State Dept. sponsored guest director with the Finnish National Theatre in Helsinki and is a guest professor at numerous local universities.
